Veteran pianist Lafayette Harris Jr. Continuing from his previous work, a piano trio work with Peter Washington (b) and Lewis Nash (ds) produced by Houston Person and recorded by Rudy Van Gelder Studio, a veteran pianist of the royal road, Lafayette Harris Jr's new, orthodox piano trio work with Peter Washington (b) and Lewis Nash (ds), following his previous work in 2019.Born in 1963, born in Philadelphia, raised in Baltimore, and now living in Brooklyn, NY. His soulful playing style started with church music in his childhood, and he was a member of rhythm & blues bands and funk bands. A composer, producer, and arranger, Lafayette has studied with Kenny Barron, Barry Harris, and Sammy Price, known as the King of Boogie Woogie. He was a regular pianist in Max Roach's band until his death and interacted with many jazzmen. In recent years, he has been a regular member of the saxophonist Houston Person Quartet.The album was produced by Houston Parson and recorded at Rudy Van Gelder Studios in Inglewood Cliffs, New Jersey. The band performs two originals and eight standard numbers, all with the "Lafayette Touch". All of the songs have the "Lafayette Touch" in abundance. For example, Stevie Wonder's "Living for the City" is successfully blended with Miles Davis's "All Blues," while "Nuts Blues," "It's All in the Game," and "St. Thomas" are all distinctive examples. The excellent recording by Maureen Sickler, longtime assistant engineer to Rudy Van Gelder, is also noteworthy.
