Burdekin plum, also known as tulip plum, is an Australian native that produces attractive plump, acidic fruits. It is incredibly hardy and drought tolerant once established, and will resist light frosts. Fruits are large, black, round and contain a large stone. They maybe eaten raw, cooked into jams, used to flavour meat, or fermented into wine. Small, yellowish green blossoms appear between January and March, developing into fruit throughout autumn and winter. Harvest the fruits when fully right, but don’t eat them straight away. They are hard and acidic straight of the tree and need to be stored for a few days. Can be grown in full sun or part shade grows 8 to 15 m tall, suitable for pots. Drought tolerant. Approx 40cms above the pot.
