【Description】
The Datejust is one of the most popular self-winding Rolex watches.
It is widely known as a watch that anyone can recognize at a glance from its distinctive appearance.
The Datejust mechanism, in which the date changes instantly at zero o’clock, is considered one of Rolex’s three greatest inventions, together with the Oyster case and the self-winding Perpetual mechanism, and the Datejust model is the culmination of all of them.
Ref. 16233 was introduced in 1988 and was produced until 2004, one generation before the current Datejust model, Ref. 116233.
It follows the basic Datejust design established in the 1960s: a fluted bezel, a Jubilee bracelet and bar indexes.
The combination of stainless steel (SS) and yellow gold (YG) design with gold central bezel, crown and bracelet is a luxurious touch.
The combination of stainless steel and gold is registered at Rolex under the name “Rolesor”, and according to the rules, this one is called “Yellow Loresol”, but it’s more commonly known as a “combination”.
A white gold combination of the same generation is Ref.16234, the reference number.
The only changes from the previous generation model Ref.16013 were in terms of functionality: the movement has been changed, the water resistance has been increased to 100 meters, and the crystal has been changed from plastic to sapphire crystal.
The crystal is now glass, which improves airtightness and makes the watch more suitable for everyday use.
The movement is Cal.3135, which continues to be regarded as one of the best movements in the watch industry even now, about 30 years after it was announced.
It is a movement with a very high degree of perfection in terms of its accuracy and ease of maintenance, which can be maintained permanently with regular maintenance.
It is also used in the Submariner Ref.16610 and 116610LN, and it is a movement that is so complete that there is no need to change its design.
The bracelet comes with a Jubilee bracelet 62523H. There is some sagging, as expected, but the bracelet has been finished and is in very clean condition.
The clasp code tells us that the bracelet is circa 1998, so it was probably made when it was released.
The bracelet is 22 links, so it can be worn up to about 18.5 cm around the arm.
The watch was just serviced at Rolex Service Center in Japan in January 2020.
As shown in the photos, the watch comes with a guarantee, box, booklet and warranty card for service.
