【Description】

The Explorer I was introduced in 1953 and featured a very simple design with 3/6/9 Arabic numerals and no date display.

The first model was born in 1971 as a top-tier model with increased functionality and robustness of the Explorer I. The Explorer II was the first model to be launched in 1971.

It was designed to be used in extreme conditions, such as polar regions and cave exploration, where it was impossible to distinguish between day and night, and its most distinctive feature was its 24-hour bezel and 24-hour hand.

The design was significantly redesigned in 1988 for the second model, which is the basis of the current model. It also featured a GMT function and was able to display the time in two different countries.

This watch is the third model of the Explorer II, Ref. 16570.

It was a long seller, sold from 1991 to 2011, and was the last model with a 40mm case size.

The movement has been changed from the second model, and the accuracy and stability have been improved further.

The dial is now available in two colors: black and white.

The next model, Ref.216570, is also the current model, and the case has been enlarged to 42mm, so we recommend this model up to 16570 for people with thin arms.

“Polar” is the nickname given to the white dial of Ref.16570 and the previous model, Ref.16550, which means “South Pole”.

It is not clear how the watch was so called, but it is likely that it was so called because Rolex advertisements at the time claimed that the watch was worn by an Antarctic explorer, and because of the white dial, like the one on the Antarctic continent.

The luminous paint is luminova because it was made in 2005, and the case is a type without side holes in the lugs, and the sapphire crystal has a watermark of the crown at 6 o’clock.

The movement, Cal. 3185, a highly maintenance-friendly and stable, was also used in the GMT Master II 16710 of the same period.

The oyster bracelet has 12 links and 1 additional link.
