Product Overview

PWM charge controllers work by connecting the solar panel directly to the battery during the bulk charge phase, then switching the connection on and off rapidly to maintain the target voltage. This approach is straightforward and cost-effective for systems where the panel voltage is closely matched to the battery voltage. The PWM-Pro builds on the standard PWM design with additional programmability, including adjustable charge algorithms and a dedicated load output with configurable disconnect thresholds.

The street lighting function is particularly useful for remote or off-grid lighting installations. The controller can be programmed to switch the load on at sunset and off after a set number of hours, or to dim the load mid-night, reducing energy consumption without manual intervention. These settings are configured via the VictronConnect app when used with the optional VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle.

The controller automatically detects 12V or 24V battery voltage on first connection, removing the need for manual voltage selection. Temperature compensation is built in, adjusting the charge voltage set points based on the measured temperature to avoid overcharging in warm conditions and undercharging in cold ones.

Installation Notes

Installation should be carried out by a competent electrician or qualified solar installer. Ensure the solar panel open-circuit voltage does not exceed the controller's maximum input voltage rating. Connect the battery before connecting the solar panel, and disconnect in reverse order. The load output is intended for DC loads only. For LiFePO4 battery installations, confirm the correct charge profile is selected via VictronConnect before commissioning. This controller is not suitable for grid-connected systems and does not require G98 or G99 compliance.
